Your responsibilities:

  • Designs, implements and supports complex data models data in the domain of social media analysis;
  • Develops solutions for extracting data from different sources: text documents, relational data bases, etc.
  • Develops models which help in the analysis of social media content;
  • Teaches in programs in the domain of analysis of natural language and social media contents;
  • Participates in research on methods for analysis and content analysis in Bulgarian and other languages;
  • Develops ontologies to present the data semantics;
  • Keeps themselves up to date with the newest technological trends.

 

Our requirements:

  • Junior researcher: А minimum of bachelor’s or master’s degree in in computer science, computational linguistics, natural language processing, or another technological or philological area;
  • Experienced researcher: A PhD Degree in in computer science, computational linguistics, natural language processing, or another technological or philological area or a Master’s Degree plus a minimum of 4 years industry-based relevant research experience;
  • Experience in the analysis of social media data;
  • Experience in tools for collecting social media data, e.g. Crowdtangle, APIs for Twitter, YouTube;
  • Experience in developing models and machine learning, e.g. Python
  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills;
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work on multiple tasks and motivation for achieving high quality results;
  • Fluency in English.

Responsibilities

  • Researches and analyses the landscape of innovative approaches that could significantly contribute to the scientific goals of GATE in the field of advanced data analytics, applied to the four application domains at GATE: Digital Health, Future Cities, Intelligent Government and Smart Industry;
  • Adapts current machine learning research to high consequence real world applications and integrate solutions into practical tool chains;
  • Pursues independent (but complementary) research interests and interact with a broad spectrum of scientists internal and external to the Institute;
  • Presents formal and informal overviews of research progress to peers, sponsors, and stakeholders;
  • Conduct self-initiated research, maintain an awareness of technical literature in assigned areas, publish research results in peer-reviewed scientific or technical journals, and present results at external conferences, seminars, and/or technical meetings;
  • Contributes to high-quality scientific publications;
  • Prepares presentations to communicate research results at national and international scientific conferences and industry events;
  • Participates in the implementation of existing and the design of novel Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) models in the context of GATE projects;
  • Performs individual and collaborative research in the area of ML and AI;
  • Participates in the development of strong relationships with external key stakeholders;
  • Engages in continuous professional development and participates in various events for learning and knowledge exchange;

Our requirements

  • Junior researcher (R1): А minimum of bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field;
  • Experienced researcher (R2): Ph.D. in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field, or a master’s degree plus a minimum of 7 years of experience in research within the industry;;
  • Established researcher(R3): Ph.D. in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field, or a master’s degree plus a minimum of 7 years of experience in research within the industry;
  • Experience in one or more of the following: machine learning, deep learning, artificial intelligence, scientific machine learning, image analysis, uncertainty quantification, verification and validation (V&V), computational statistics;
  • Programming skills in Python using at least several of the standard Data Science tools and libraries: PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras, NumPy, SciPy, Pandas or others;
  • Interest in participating in research projects, involving a wide variety of stakeholders;

Common

  • Develop and fine-tune large language models (LLMs) for NLP applications such as text generation, summarization, retrieval, and classification.
  • Implement retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), fine-tuning, and parameter-efficient tuning (LoRA, adapters, etc.).
  • Optimize transformer-based architectures (GPT, BERT, T5, LLaMA, Mistral, Falcon, etc.) for efficiency and accuracy.
  • Design and optimize prompt engineering strategies to improve LLM performance across different tasks.
  • Research and apply advanced prompt engineering techniques, such as chain-of-thought reasoning, self-consistency, few-shot learning, and instruction tuning.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate NLP solutions into real-world applications, including conversational AI, document intelligence, and enterprise search.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in NLP, deep learning, and generative AI research.
  • Disseminating results through scientific publications.
  • Takes the lead in executing collaborative research projects in cooperation with colleagues and project partners;

Engage in appropriate training and development opportunities.

One or more of the following responsibilities

  • Work with vector databases (FAISS, Weaviate, Pinecone), embeddings, and knowledge graphs to improve AI retrieval capabilities.

  • Expertise in prompt engineering strategies for task-specific and general-purpose LLM applications.
  • Proficiency in Python, PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face Transformers.
  • Experience with LLM fine-tuning, RLHF, and model compression (quantization, distillation).
  • Solid oral/written communication and presentation skills to explain the outcome of the research to coworkers and peers;

Experience with one or more of the following

The researchers will be involved in an international project in collaboration with two of the most prestigious research institutes in Europe: Norway’s SINTEF Institute and Ireland’s INSIGHT Institute. The project’s aim is to build a knowledge transfer framework between the partners and develop a visionary scientific strategy to enhance research capacity in the field of data space interoperability. The project’s outcomes will be applied to drive innovations in areas of significant social and economic importance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducts high-quality applied research in the field of semantic interoperability for data spaces;
  • Develops techniques and models for data interoperability;
  • Applies research results to innovative solutions;
  • Prepares presentations to promote research outcomes at national and international levels;
  • Prepares high-impact scientific publications.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, applied mathematics, software engineering, or a related technical field;
  • Experience in the field of semantic technologies;
  • Knowledge of the principles, tools, and technologies for data sharing;
  • Ability to collaborate and work in teams with international partners;
  • Motivation for professional development and a passion for research work;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to present research results (and their value);
  • Fluency in English.
