GATE is looking for young talents to join its internship programme

By participating in the GATE Institute’s internship program, you will become part of a leading team in the field of big data and artificial intelligence and work on interdisciplinary research projects in collaboration with GATE partners.

What do you need to know about the internship offered by us?

• It begins in July and lasts for 12 weeks
• You will gain new knowledge and skills
• You will have the opportunity to work on a research project with GATE researchers
• It will be conducted in a hybrid style, both in person at the GATE Institute and online from the convenience of your home.

What does it take to become a GATE intern?

• To be interested in any of the following areas: Data Management, Data Analytics, Data Visualization, Data Engineering, Modelling, Machine Learning, or Digital Twin (Cyber-Physical Systems) development
• To be motivated, ambitious, and interested in big data and artificial intelligence
• Have good analytical and problem-solving skills
• Have programming experience (Python, Java, C++, or other)
• You can parse data and build ML model
• Be an undergraduate or have graduated from a STEM major

The top candidates for the “Future cities” application domain are expected to have some skills in Machine learning, Deep Learning, Computer Vision, Game Engines (Unity, Unreal), 3D visualization of urban data, Data modelling, Databases, XML, JSON, Postgres – urban data modelling, development of mobile applications.

The ideal intern in the field of Disinformation detection and research should have:

• A combination of technical and analytical skills, and knowledge in algorithms, data mining, and machine learning techniques OR
• Experience in fields such as anthropology, sociology, political science, behavioral science, communications sciences, and artificial intelligence.
• Interest in the topic of disinformation and its impact on the Bulgarian political environment.
• Educational background in fields such as media studies, communication, education, or psychology.
• Interest in media literacy programmes.

In the Big Data Engineering group, we drive innovation and informed decision-making across diverse application domains by advancing data sharing paradigms such as data spaces. Semantics play a central role in enabling effective data sharing—ensuring that systems interpret and use data with a shared understanding.

Our current research explores the potential of multi-agent LLM systems to collaboratively define and evolve shared meanings, shaping how information is structured and interconnected within and across data spaces.

This internship offers hands-on experience with:

• Knowledge representation and semantic modeling
• Natural language processing (NLP) and preprocessing techniques
• Prompt engineering and interaction design for LLMs
• LLM embeddings and semantic search
• Rapid prototyping of ML solutions

You will be part of a team exploring cutting-edge approaches to interoperability and intelligent data use, with practical applications in real-world data ecosystems.
